Living in Puerto is awesome.  The year round summer weather, the historical sites, the food and the beaches, oh the beaches.

As a local, it’s hard to pick a favorite beach.  Puerto Rico is surrounded by so many wonderful beaches, so it’s kind of like picking a favorite child.

We did our best to highlight 5 of our favorites. Here we go.

5. Luquillo Beach

Luquillo Beach is located on the east coast of Puerto Rico and it’s a hot spot for locals. The water at Luiquillo is usually very calm but a bit chilly. The Luquillo area is surrounded by wonderful kiosks offering the best of local cuisine.

  1. Playuela, Cabo Rojo

Located on the southwest corner of the island Playuela is an awesome spot for nature goers and beach lovers alike.  The famous Light house is not far from the beach and if you are lucky, you can even spot some turtle nests, but please do not touch.

  1. Playa Buye, Cabo Rojo

At Buye you get two distinct beaches in one location. The colors and clarity of the water make Buye one of the prettiest beaches on the west coast of Puerto Rico.  The waves are very gentle most of the year making it a good beach for families with toddlers.  There are plenty of trees offering shade that you can claim for the day.

  1. Crash Boat, Aguadilla

Crash Boat Beach or Playa Crash Boat is a beach located in the northwestern Puertorican municipality of Aguadilla. It occupies the site of a former military port used to rescue downed air crews from Ramey Air Force Base and still retains some remains of its pier infrastructure.

This beach has local food vendors and nice sand. Water can be rough as most of the beaches in this area.

  1. Flamenco

Considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Flamenco Beach is a public beach on the Caribbean island of Culebra. It is known for its shallow turquoise waters, white sand, swimming areas, and diving sites. It stretches for a mile around a sheltered, horseshoe-shaped bay.

What do you think of you list? Did we leave one of your favorite beaches out of the list? Leave us a comment. We would love to hear from you.
